Desperado

Cord Romero is a freelance fighter who thrives on danger. After surviving an attempt on his life by an enemy he has never been able to identify, he sets out to bring down the head of a multinational company that runs a child labor operation. To get close to his target, he takes work with the Lassiter Detective Agency, where he runs into his boyhood friend Maggie Barton.

Maggie is no longer the girl Cord remembers. She has grown into a capable, self-reliant woman who matches him professionally. Yet she carries a painful secret from her past that could strain her bond with Cord and make her a target for the very man he is hunting.

Cord cannot let his attention drift while working on a case that matters more than any he has taken on. Maggie proves essential to tracing the links to his enemy's crimes. Depending on each other to stay alive, the two are drawn into a dangerous contest in which only one of them can come out ahead.
