Devils Bridge Affair

A violent storm marks the opening: a bolt of lightning tears across the sky just as night gives way to morning, and a life is lost in that moment. The name Devil's Bridge comes from an old local legend about a span raised centuries ago for the town, built by the devil himself. He demanded a price for his work, and in return he vowed to return again and again, in different forms and at different times, bringing misfortune to those who live in the bridge's shadow.

Most townspeople treat the story as a charming piece of local folklore, nothing more. Their view is that wicked acts can happen anywhere and that the devil is not real. That certainty is tested when a major scandal erupts in the community, involving a schoolboy and his English teacher. Even the staunchest doubters start to wonder whether something devilish has slipped in among them.
