About this book
Disability Intimacy is an anthology of first-person writing on life as a disabled person today, with intimacy as its subject. It is edited by activist Alice Wong and follows her earlier anthology Disability Visibility. The book asks what intimacy actually is, and answers that it reaches well beyond sex and romantic love. Its pieces explore caregiving, community, access and friendship as other ways of forming connections with people, an idea that carries extra weight in a period when physical distance has sometimes been required.
Sex is part of the picture too. The collection looks at how sexual liberation intersects with disability justice, and includes accounts of sexual discovery, love stories and joy from disabled writers.
The book contains twenty-five new pieces, along with other modern classics on the subject chosen by Wong. The forms include essays, photo essays, poetry and drama, and together they cover the dreams, fantasies and lived realities of a wide range of bodies and minds.
