About this book
Ladybird's Do You Know? range offers graded English readers for children aged five and up who are learning the language as a foreign or second tongue. Each nonfiction title is built around science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and poses questions that range from why some creatures are active after dark to how bridges are put together.
This Level 2 volume, Making Computers, is pitched at A1 on the CEFR scale and helps prepare young readers for the YLE Movers exam. Its sentences are kept short, with no more than two clauses each, while the past tense and a handful of simple adverbs are introduced. The book asks how large the earliest computers were and what binary means, then invites readers to find out more about the science behind computing.
Across the series, the four levels move from CEFR Pre-A1 to A2. Video content, project work and critical-thinking activities aim to build children's language, communication and investigation skills. The Ladybird Education website provides online video, audio, comprehension activities and ideas for projects.
