Dory Dillo
About This Book
Dory is a young armadillo at the center of this middle-grade chapter book, which blends real armadillo facts into its plot while teaching young readers about protecting the environment. She is not alone in the story. A band of animal companions joins her as they take on a challenge meant to matter well beyond their own corner of the woods. The chemistry lab is where Dory feels most at home. When she is named Science Student of the Month, the first girl ever to earn the honor, her classmates start calling her a girl scientist, a label she hears as another word for nerd. Dory's world shifts when she learns that people intend to clear the forest on the far side of the highway. Stepping outside her comfort zone, she designs a risky mission to stop the project with help from armadillos, raccoons, crows and three large dogs. The story turns on whether this unlikely team can keep the forest from being replaced by a shopping mall.
