Dr. No

Wala Kitu is a mathematics professor at Brown University whose specialty is nothing. He is at ease with nothing in every sense: he studies it, possesses it, and practices it. His research eventually draws the notice of John Sill, a billionaire who sees himself as a Bond villain. Sill asks Kitu to help him remove a stockpile of nothing from Fort Knox and use it to reduce the United States to nothing.

Sill's motive is revenge. His father witnessed the state-sanctioned assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., and his father's murder was another act of violence by the country itself. For Sill, the plan is all that matters, and his conviction is that the nation has never given his people anything and never will.

The novel is Percival Everett's reworking of Ian Fleming's James Bond novel Dr. No.
