Dragon Head 3 continues Minetaro Mochizuki's 1990s disaster manga, a bleak and unsettling story set in a Japan wrecked by catastrophe. Ako and Teru are stranded in a deserted town, where they have uneasily teamed up with two soldiers who deserted their unit in the chaos: Nimura, the volatile leader of the runaway group, and Iwata, the helicopter pilot. The alliance is tested when Teru becomes gravely ill. With no other option, Ako sets out with Nimura on a hike that will take days, hoping to reach medicine that could keep Teru alive. Near the end of the journey, the pair meet a young man whose scalp is marked with surgical scars and who cannot feel pain. He murmurs two strange words that he says account for the disaster that has ruined Japan: dragon head. Before he can say more, a band of violent rioters closes in from the dark. The series is known for its slow-building dread, where atmosphere and psychological strain count for more than shock. This volume is a new print edition of the manga.
