Dreamslinger

Aria Loveridge is fourteen and lives at the Resthaven Home for Dreamslingers. The children there share a genetic mutation that sends them into a powerfully magical realm whenever they sleep. That magic is unpredictable and can be deadly. Ten years ago, members of the Royal League of Dreamslingers set off the Great Outburst, a disaster that killed hundreds of people, Aria's mother among them.

Aria's father has since become the leading expert on Dreamslinger Welfare, so she knows exactly how society keeps itself safe from kids like her. The methods are separation, identification and, above all, suppressing their powers. When the Kingdom of Royal Hanguk announces the first Dreamslinger trials, she sees her chance. Teenage slingers from around the world are invited to compete for a place in the League and to learn to use their abilities. Aria decides to enter and bring the League down from within.

The trials open up a world she did not expect. Dragons and phoenixes fly over Seoul, meals appear to match your mood, and dreams take solid form. For the first time, Aria finds friends and a place where she feels she belongs. Then secrets from the past begin to surface, and some of them make her doubt who she really is. Her need to learn the truth only grows stronger, but first she has to get through the trials alive.

This is the first book in a new fantasy series from Graci Kim. It has been pitched to readers who enjoyed Amari and the Night Brothers.
