Drilling data handbook

This revised eighth edition is a reference handbook for drilling work. Its predecessor appeared in 1999, and the author revisits the question of how technical data should be delivered in a changed information landscape. Electronic options such as a CD-ROM or a web service linked to outside sites were weighed against keeping the traditional paper "green book" that drilling crews have relied on for decades.

The author acknowledges that the internet offers vast amounts of material, yet searching it can be frustrating and specific technical facts are often hard to locate. The handbook is not meant to rival manufacturers' websites or other electronic sources. Its purpose is to put essential data within immediate reach, whether in the office or on the rig floor, without requiring extra equipment or resources.

For these reasons the edition keeps the familiar printed format. It is intended to support engineers and crews as they plan and carry out a well.
