Engagement, subtitled The Missing Component in Psychedelic Therapy, looks at a gap in how psychedelic therapy is usually approached. Preparation before a session and integration afterward get plenty of attention, but what a person does during the experience itself is rarely discussed. G. Scott Graham argues that active engagement in the moment is the key to lasting change.

The book teaches readers how to stay present and involved during a psychedelic experience rather than drifting passively or being overwhelmed. It explains how to find the balance between surrender and control so that the journey can lead to real transformation. Readers learn to take an active part in their experience using psychological flexibility, equanimity and deliberate techniques, and to carry those skills into the rest of their lives.

The book includes a structured eight-week training program aimed at building engagement and psychological flexibility. It is written for first-time explorers, experienced psychonauts and therapists who guide others.
