Engineer Like Me

Zara is a child who wants to know how everything works. On outings around the city with her gran, she notices all sorts of remarkable sights and wonders how they function, such as how a roller coaster manages its loops or what keeps an aeroplane in the air. Along the way she meets some of the engineers whose work has shaped the places she sees, and she starts to dream of inventing things of her own.

The book is illustrated with bright, inventive artwork and includes hands-on activities for young readers, such as folding the best possible paper plane and dropping an egg from a height without breaking it. It was written by Dr Shini Somara, an engineer and television presenter, and it highlights women working in STEM fields.

This picture book is the first in a planned series. Further titles are listed as coming, including A Scientist Like Me, A Coder Like Me and A Mathematician Like Me.
