About this book
Photographs document a single artist's assembled group of eggs, each one decorated by hand. Egg artist Isabel B. Anthony has been embellishing eggs for as long as she can remember. The pursuit took hold in the 1960s, after she read a Ladies' Home Journal article about the Easter eggs made by Russian jeweler Peter Carl Fabergé, which were enameled and set with precious gems.
Anthony starts with blown shells from hens, geese, ducks, turkeys, emus and ostriches. She transforms them using decoupage, paint, Austrian sequins and beads, German miniature cotton flowers, English netting, French silk velvet ribbon, vintage jewels, chains, tiny birds, and playful found objects.
Arshia Khan styled and photographed the collection. Every egg is distinct from the others, and each seems to carry its own story and character.
