Faces Behind These Systems

This memoir recounts how NK Yahushua came to believe that the government alone had taken over her identity. It begins with a sunset hike in Los Angeles's Griffith Park, taken with a friend and her dog. That outing ended with a park ranger singling her out because of her race, followed by an arrest she says had no basis and a stretch of false imprisonment far from her home in Los Feliz.

That night was only the beginning. Over the next fifteen years, Yahushua, who holds a doctoral degree, found herself caught in a justice system she describes as arrogant and prejudiced. A mark on her criminal record that no one would name kept her from steady work, her house slid into foreclosure, and her future hung in the balance.

Determined to learn who had placed her on California's blacklist, and why, she began an investigation of her own. What she uncovered, she presents as evidence of wrongdoing within the American justice system. The book follows whether she will see her record cleared and her life restored.
