Facing Britain

This volume is built around a large overview exhibition, shown outside the United Kingdom, that gathers for the first time nearly every major figure in British documentary photography. Some of the featured photographers, among them John Myers, Tish Murtha and Peter Mitchell, dropped out of view for years before being brought back to attention, and they appear alongside internationally famous names such as Martin Parr.

The selection traces how photography developed in Britain. Those developments connect with trends in continental Europe and North America, yet they also followed a path of their own.
