About this book
Factory Records shaped the British music scene from the late 1970s through the 1990s, and this volume traces how the label drove that movement. Its roster included Joy Division, which is the subject of an upcoming Anton Corbijn film, along with New Order and Happy Mondays, who led the new wave of post-punk bands.
The label was also a place where musicians and visual designers worked side by side. Peter Saville, Den Kelly, Mark Farrow, 8VO, and Barbara Kruger were among those who turned album covers into an art form in their own right. Factory went further by opening its own nightclub, the famous Hacienda.
This book gathers the label's entire graphic output in one place for the first time, including every single it released, along with rare record sleeves, club flyers, and posters. Compiled by Matthew Robertson, it is aimed at collectors and fans of music and design, and at newer audiences curious about Factory's creative legacy.
