Fahrenheit-182
About This Book
Fahrenheit-182 is the memoir of Mark Hoppus, vocalist, bassist, songwriter and founding member of the pop-punk band blink-182. It tells how an angst-ridden kid from the desert became one of the best-known musicians of his generation. Hoppus recalls his parents' bitter divorce and the moves around the country that followed. He describes reinventing himself again and again, from dork to goth to skate punk, until he met the best friend who turned out to be his musical soulmate. He also paints a vivid picture of growing up in the 1980s as a latchkey kid obsessed with punk rock, skateboards and MTV, and he shows how that childhood led to the formation of his band. Two threads run through the book. One is his long struggle with anxiety. The other is his public fight with cancer, which he came through. Written with humor, the memoir is aimed at blink-182 fans and also at anyone who has wanted to quit but kept going.
