Jess has grown up in a world where most of her companions exist only online. The companies that run the digital realm also decide who gets food, healthcare and entertainment, and Jess has never thought to question that arrangement. Everything changes when she turns fourteen and is finally allowed to attend school alongside other children who live beyond the screen.

Her new classmates mostly regard the physical world as something to escape, yet Jess starts to wonder whether the online life she was raised in is as flawless as everyone claims. Back home, her sister Chloe depends on a medication that keeps climbing in price. Jess resolves to help by using abilities that are banned in the digital world, and she stumbles across something explosive that shakes her understanding of everything around her.

This contemporary novel explores identity and how much of our lives now play out online. It is written by the award-winning author of Boy 87, Lost and Melt. Jess must work out what is genuine and what has been manufactured, because her sister's survival depends on getting the answer right.
