Fallen Hero

Fallen Hero is a middle-grade fantasy drawn from Chinese mythology and continues the series about Faryn Liu. Faryn believed she was the Heaven Breaker, a warrior fated to wield the powerful spear Fenghuang, command dragons and defeat demons. She now learns that a scheming goddess had been manipulating her all along. Worse, her adored younger brother, Alex, has betrayed her and taken the Heaven Breaker role for himself.

Alex never forgave the people who treated the two of them as outcasts. He now wants to destroy the demons and most of humanity along with them. Faryn is determined to stop a war and win her brother back. With her half-dragon friend Ren, she joins the New Order, a band of warriors based in Manhattan's Chinatown.

There she discovers that only one weapon can stand against Fenghuang: the Ruyi Jingu Bang. It belongs to the notorious trickster the Monkey King. Faryn sets out to persuade him to fight beside her, and her quest leads to unfamiliar places, including Diyu, the underworld. Along the way she meets fresh dangers and several familiar faces, and she must decide what she is willing to pay to save her brother.
