Fan Mail

Randy, Bobby, and Danny, who makes music alongside the two brothers and is also their closest friend, start receiving letters from a fan. At first the messages are merely unsettling, and the trio decides to disregard them, a choice that proves costly. The writer's tone grows steadily more dangerous, and the threats give way to real violence, including a car bomb. The fallout spreads into the household, where the boys' father suffers a heart attack that comes close to killing him.

As the pressure mounts, the bond between the brothers begins to crack, and they start turning against one another. Brian, another adopted brother, finds his thoughts drawn back to an earlier event in Arizona, when he came close to dying while protecting his brothers. The scars on his face and arms have healed, but the injuries he carries inside have not.

The story asks whether Brian will once again have to put himself at risk for the people he loves, and if so, whether he will be willing to do it.
