About this book
Ana Reed works as a social service worker, devoted to pursuing justice for the children in her care. She intends to keep her fire alive for an unending span of years, and she is convinced she can clear a way forward for the damaged young people she has sworn to protect. Her hold on time itself is meant to deliver them from harm.
Humanity, however, has taken a different road. Its own avarice, cruelty and hunger for dominion brought about its downfall. The immortals stepped in to rescue people from themselves, but in doing so they confined a once-free population. They built vast farms to shelter a small, carefully chosen elite, selected to continue the human race. Time wore away every memory of liberty, leaving only a sense of duty toward the immortals.
Ana unexpectedly finds her soul mate in this strange setting. James bears a number and a sense of obligation, and he does the work assigned to him, supplying food for the immortals. He has no knowledge of anything beyond the farm's boundaries. Ana, through the stories she tells, becomes his only link to the outside world, and he treasures the sense of freedom her tales give him.
Ana's long life, shared with her family and friends, is filled with many adventures, yet the future that awaits her is something she could never have imagined possible. Her original goal is ultimately fulfilled with the help of the one she loves.
