Fatal act

A young television soap actress is killed in a road accident, but the story does not end at the crash scene. The motorist in the other car walks away unharmed and then disappears without a trace. Detective Inspector Geraldine Steel, back for her sixth investigation, is stumped by the case from the start.

When a second young actress is murdered, the pattern repeats: the suspect slips away as if they were never there. Geraldine, who does not yet realise the danger, puts her sergeant in harm's way as the two hunt a serial killer who seems to leave no evidence behind.
