Favor

Jude hasn't seen Liam in years, so she is surprised when he turns up at her workplace asking for a favor. She finds she can't say no. All he wants is for her to pick him up at a country train station, and to tell no one about it. That means lying to her fiancé, even though she is committed to him and their wedding is close. But she and Liam were once in love, and she feels she owes him.

Their history runs through a car crash years earlier that changed everything. Afterward Jude, bright and ambitious, returned to her plan of going to medical school. Liam, moody and artistic, never recovered from the dark mark the accident left on his record.

When Jude arrives at the station, it is the police who are waiting, not Liam. She realizes she knows nothing about the man he has become. As the last person to have seen him, she is pulled into his life and into a murder investigation, and she may be the only one who can find out what really went wrong, even if the search costs her own life as she knows it.

Favor is a stand-alone psychological thriller by Nicci French, the pen name of the married British writing duo Nicci Gerrard and Sean French.
