FIRST DEGREE RAGE

Written by a North Carolina sheriff's detective, this true crime account follows a case built on deceit within a family circle and a savage killing. In 1993, Kay Weden, a single mother, faced a run of inexplicable attacks. A gunshot fired into her home nearly killed her son, and her elderly mother was later slain by an intruder who was never identified. Kay's recently arrived boyfriend, Viktor Gunnarsson, then vanished without a trace. A striking Swede living in the United States while seeking political asylum, Viktor had been charged in the 1986 assassination of Sweden's prime minister. Having run out of options, Kay turned to her former fiancé, L.C. Underwood, a police officer skilled at criminal investigation, who promised to uncover the cause of her torment. Viktor's naked body was then discovered two hours away in the Appalachian Mountains. As the sheriff's detective Paula May began her inquiry, she untangled a chilling pattern of stalking, assault and murder.
