First Wish

Jeanie Bell attends Rivertown Elementary as a second grader, and her school days follow a familiar, predictable rhythm that suits her well. Then Willow Davis arrives as a new student, and peculiar events start to unfold around the two girls. The story asks whether the secret Willow is hiding will strain Jeanie's friendship with her and reshape the town of Rivertown itself.

This opening volume of the Jeanie and Genie series uses simple vocabulary and includes illustrations on nearly every page, which makes it suited to early readers working through their first chapter books.
