Flash Fire

Flash Fire is the second book in T. J. Klune's Extraordinaries series, following The Extraordinaries. Nick has managed, through bravery, charm, and an alarming amount of enthusiasm, to win the superhero boyfriend he always dreamed of. Instead of only writing stories about the hero, he now gets to kiss him, often. Even so, dating a superhero is not quite what Nick imagined, and he is still trying to accept that he has no extraordinary powers of his own. New Extraordinaries start showing up in Nova City. They include siblings who control smoke and ice, a mysterious hero who can move objects with their mind, and a drag queen superhero with the best name and the most sequined costume anyone has ever worn. Nick and his friends Seth, Gibby, and Jazz must work out which of the newcomers are heroes and which are villains. More than the new arrivals is coming to light. Long-held secrets and neglected truths begin to surface, and they challenge what Nick believes about justice, family, and being extraordinary. That is a lot to take in for someone who mostly wants to finish his self-insert bakery AU fanfic. The question is whether everything will come together or go down in flames.
