Forgotten Frontier

Ela Tahoe is a runaway who has become a deputy sheriff in a small New Mexican town. Three months after the Civil War ends, a Confederate force invades the town. To fight the threat, Ela must face her heritage and her past with the Apache and ask for their help, which forces her to see the world through Native American eyes again. With the lives of her townspeople at stake, and above all her son's, she fights tooth and nail in a tightly paced western thriller.

The book is a graphic novel written by Tristan Jones, who is Black Mi'kmaq and Anishinaabe, and illustrated by sequential artist Alexander Bumbulut. Jones sets out to reimagine and reclaim the story of the American Western Frontier, a history the author sees as widely misrepresented and full of inaccuracies and stereotypes. The retelling centers the Indigenous perspective that has so often been missing from it.
