About this book
This edited volume gathers research papers presented at the 5th International Symposium on Formal Methods in Architecture, known as 5FMA, held in Lisbon in 2020. The studies concentrate on techniques originating in mathematics and computer science, with particular attention to their recent development and to how they are being worked out jointly with architects and researchers from neighboring fields.
The collection adds to ongoing discussion about new methods and tools for architecture and urbanism. Its central idea is that formal methods can produce explicit languages for analyzing and solving problems in these disciplines. The chapters also document emerging practices that respond to pressing social challenges and the digital transformation of institutions working in these areas.
The book is intended for academics and professionals in architecture, urban planning, civil engineering, AEC, landscape design, and computer science and mathematics.
