About this book
Thien-Kim Lam, author of Happy Endings, returns with a romantic comedy set in New Orleans during Mardi Gras season. It asks whether a brief affair in the city can grow into something lasting.
Josie Parks, a boudoir photographer who rarely takes time off, is struggling creatively when a client cancels a New Orleans shoot at the last minute. Instead of staying home, she travels south from her studio in Washington, D.C., hoping a change of scenery will revive her work.
Spencer Pham has returned to New Orleans after twelve years in the corporate world to make a documentary about his family's history with the first Vietnamese Mardi Gras krewe. His plans take an unexpected turn when a woman chasing parade beads strikes him on the head. During a late night at an urgent care center, the two bond over their artistic ambitions, and Spencer offers to show Josie the real city if she will help with the camerawork on his film.
Their working partnership proves surprisingly strong, and their romance develops alongside the project. But Josie's life and business are in D.C., and both have ambitious goals they are determined to pursue. As the affair begins to feel more serious, they must decide how to balance their personal feelings with their professional passions.
