Gargoyle Hall

Araminta has a habit of being helpful, and it gets her into trouble. When she throws cold water over her best friend Wanda to scatter a crowd of panicked bats, the grown-ups decide she has been helpful once too often, and she is packed off to boarding school.

At Gargoyle Hall, Araminta is surprised to find that her new home, Spook House, makes her old one seem positively cosy. Strange moans and clanks echo down the corridors, and the two head girls are just as creepy. Most of the other pupils have been scared away.

Araminta suspects that someone or something is behind it all. With Wanda and Uncle Drac's prize bat to help, she sets out to put a stop to the menace.

The book is part of the Araminta Spook series by Angie Sage, who also wrote the Septimus Heap books.
