About this book
Los Angeles in the near future is a city where the best chefs hold the kind of power once reserved for mob bosses, and a reservation at the right restaurant is worth killing for. Dining has become a blood sport, and the kitchens are the front lines of a violent war over what people should eat.
Two camps dominate the fight. The Internationalists build their menus from flavors gathered across the globe, mixing cuisines into elaborate and exotic creations. Opposing them is the Vertical Farm, whose cooks serve only organic, vegetarian, macrobiotic food. Each side is determined to win control of the city's tables, and each wants the same prize: Jiro.
Jiro is a sushi chef with no interest in compromise. He is ruthless, and he has a habit of beheading customers who ask for a California Roll or who mix wasabi into their soy sauce. Both factions court him, but he has his own plans, and they may leave very few chefs standing.
This graphic novel is a darkly comic satire of food culture and the people obsessed with it. It was written by Anthony Bourdain, the chef and author of Kitchen Confidential and Medium Raw and host of the travel show No Reservations, together with Joel Rose, whose novels include Kill Kill Faster Faster and The Blackest Bird. The artwork is by Langdon Foss.
