Ghost Book

July Chen can see ghosts, but her father insists they don't exist, so she keeps her ability hidden. That secrecy gets much harder during Hungry Ghost month, when the gates of the Underworld swing open and dangerous spirits roam the living world. When July rescues a boy spirit from being devoured by a Hungry Ghost, she gains her first real friend. There is one problem: William isn't a ghost at all. He is a drifting soul, suspended between life and death. Together the two set out to return William to his body, and along the way they uncover a grim truth. Twelve years ago, both children were alive, but only one of them was meant to survive, and for William to live, July must die. Drawing on Chinese mythology, this graphic novel is dark in places but ultimately hopeful. It explores friendship, sacrifice, and the hidden realm of spirits.
