About this book
Klaus Moje spent more than fifty years working with glass, a material he found especially alluring. His pieces delighted and astonished collectors worldwide, and his output changed how contemporary glass is made and valued. His approach rested on a commitment to moving toward what is hopeful, and he drew constant inspiration from the colours and geometric forms he saw in the natural world. He pioneered kilnformed glass, the technique through which much of his work was made.
Moje was a maker and a teacher. He trained as an apprentice in his father's small glass-cutting and glass-grinding business, then earned a master's degree at the Glasfachschule Hadamar. He later opened a studio in Hamburg. In 1982 he moved to Australia to establish the Glass Workshop at the Canberra School of Art, which became one of the most successful glass education programs in the world. After a decade of teaching, he returned to working full time in his studio.
His life and work inspired many people to take up glass as their medium. Art historian Nola Anderson wrote this book, which traces the life and art of Klaus Moje.
