About this book
On Saturday, April 11, 1970, the Argentine singer Sandro becomes the first Latin American artist to play Madison Square Garden, and twenty-year-old Gloria has a ticket. The concert really happened, and Andrés Felipe Solano builds his novel around it. Gloria walks through a bright New York spring day buoyed by hope. She sets aside the unsettling images she has seen at her job in a photographic laboratory, the memory of her father's murder when she was a child, and the uncertain future of her relationship with her short-tempered boyfriend, Tigre. Those worries can wait. This is meant to be a perfect day, one she wants to last forever, and in ways she could not foresee, it does.
Fifty years later, her son looks back over his mother's life. He notices something that links them: each spent their formative years in New York at the very same age. That coincidence becomes a bridge across the generations, joining mother and son through a shared sense of longing and of possibility not yet used up.
The story moves between New York, Colombia and Miami and across five decades, tracing two lives that keep folding into each other. It is nostalgic in tone but also ambitious in its reach, an excavation of one woman's past that asks how the choices made in youth echo through every future that follows.
