About this book
Physics has long pursued quantum gravity, a framework often nicknamed the theory of everything. The author argues that even such a theory would fall short without the God of the Bible. He takes issue with the standard account of a big bang that produced the cosmos from 'nothing,' pointing out that the word has no real meaning in physics. In his view, the big bang blocks any view of what came before it, and a finite universe cannot explain its own existence. Claiming that we exist by accident, he says, explains nothing and leads to a dead end in logic.
According to the author, the universe's cause is information: mathematical laws that science is meant to uncover. The basic properties of those laws, he contends, mirror the Supreme Lawgiver described in Genesis. A cosmos that can be understood is, in his judgment, clear evidence of an Intelligent Mind behind it. He presents what he calls The Creator's Voice as a scientific theory that confirms the truth of Genesis, picturing God speaking the laws that brought the universe into being out of nothing, the doctrine known as creatio ex nihilo.
The author describes a foundation of ethereal cosmic waves that interact under those laws to produce and sustain the appearance of reality we experience. Space, time, energy and matter, he maintains, are built from quantum information alone, with nothing further required. By eliminating other possibilities, he concludes that God is the only explanation that fits everything we know. He reads the human mind as evidence that consciousness runs throughout the cosmos, and he suggests that cosmic waves interact with that mind in mysterious ways. The cosmos, in his account, relates to people more like a vast Mind than a mindless machine.
Finally, the author holds that the god-like nature of the human mind shows that people are made imago Dei, in the image of God. He adds that placing God within a scientific theory means little unless God can be shown to be a real, living Being who is present in the world and relevant to our lives.
