About this book
Lord Tanaros, the supreme commander, was born human but turned to darkness and eternal life after his wife's affair with his king. He murdered them both, abandoned the human lands, and now feels nothing for their fate. For a thousand years his one loyalty has belonged to Satoris, the dark god who first gave mortals life. Satoris had defied his elder brother Haomane, who wanted that gift withdrawn, and their war split the world apart. Satoris's name became a byword for evil among every race, and Tanaros's story is remembered as the classic tale of betrayal. Yet not every story told is accurate.
A final prophecy is now unfolding. The peoples of the world are joining forces to destroy Satoris, and the elder gods, marooned on the far side of the world, send dreams urging them on. Those who serve Satoris, however, know another version of events. They hold the citadel of Darkhaven, where Satoris dwells in grief, governing his realm and wanting neither triumph nor revenge. When his followers seize the elven princess Cerelinde, the Allies lose the one person who can complete the prophecy. Many of Satoris's servants demand she be executed, but he refuses to play the villain others have made him, because in her he sees a trace of the love he once felt for his fellow gods.
Cerelinde threatens Satoris, and she threatens Tanaros even more, since she and everything he cares about are at stake. She shows him that not every woman is faithless, and that although he cannot die, his heart still can be broken. Godslayer closes the story begun in Banewreaker, and its characters are vivid and memorable. It is a tale of love and loss that asks whether you are evil if everything considered good regards you as such.
