Governor

For more than half a century, the Terran Republic and the Terran League have waged a war that grows deadlier every year, with no conclusion in sight. The Five Hundred, the wealthy elite who govern the Republic's core worlds, seem unbothered by the mounting toll.

Rear Admiral Terrence Murphy belongs to that privileged circle. His family is among the Five Hundred, his wife is the daughter of one of its richest industrialists, and his children can easily avoid military service. Power in the Republic is within his reach. His assignment is a low-risk military governorship on New Dublin, a remote world in the Fringe System, and if he keeps things calm there, his rise will continue. The men who sent him have misjudged him. Murphy is guided by honor, duty, basic decency, and responsibility, and he suspects that dark and dangerous secrets lie beneath what everyone takes for granted.

Murphy intends to uncover those hidden truths and bring the killing to an end, whatever the Five Hundred may want. His target is whoever has directed fifty-six years of bloodshed, and he means to pursue that person without hesitation.
