About this book
Antoinette Denise Ranson writes from her own experience of some of the hardest seasons of her life. Her account is aimed at Christians who are weighed down by overwhelming circumstances and have started to wonder whether it is worth carrying on. When a problem looks unsolvable, the way forward can be hard to make out, and many people end up asking why their path holds so much hardship.
The book follows the author's move from a state of graceful brokenness toward wholeness, and it is meant to offer healing and deliverance to anyone who has been through something similar. Ranson names several kinds of loss and disappointment: divorce, the death of someone close, being passed over for a promotion, and being wounded within the church. She suggests that God sometimes allows a crushing process, comparing it to an olive pressed for oil, which releases a fragrance and draws out qualities in a person that have not yet come to light.
Ranson draws on John 5:6, where Jesus asks a man whether he wants to be restored, and she insists that wholeness is within reach. Her central image is a shattered glass: some fragments are too small to see, and not every piece is needed to rebuild what was damaged. Her message is to leave the work of reassembly to God.
