Gravebooks

Gravebooks is the sequel to J. A. White's Nightbooks. Alex believed he was finished with witches, but Natacha, the witch who once held him captive to make him write scary stories, returns one night. She has found a way into his dreams and brought a new, frightening familiar named Simeon, and once again they want Alex to write.

He and his best friend Yasmin are carried off to a story graveyard, where Alex must finish an original scary tale every night. What does Natacha plan to do with his finished stories? And what makes a story good enough? Natacha may control the beginnings, but only Alex can write the ending.

The book is a spooky read that also looks at the craft of writing. As Alex works on his own scary tales, he comes up against plot twists, active characters, originality, taking feedback and writer's block. That makes it suitable for reading for fun or for use in classrooms.

Nightbooks, the first book in the series, was adapted into a Netflix film.
