Great Expectations

Pip is an orphan growing up in the household of his sister and her husband, with no prospects and no reason to expect any. That changes when he begins visiting Miss Havisham, a wealthy old woman who lives with a young girl in her care. Through them, Pip starts to imagine a better life for himself.

Then comes news that a mysterious benefactor has left him a large fortune, on the condition that he move to London and become a gentleman. His real adventure begins there, as he sets out to discover the truth about who he is. Dickens's mystery of ambition and identity remains one of his most loved and enduring novels.
