About this book
This IET publication addresses how to protect electrical installations against fire, a key part of electrical work. Its intended readers include consulting engineers, installers, inspectors and technicians who deal with fire safety in these systems. The content has been brought up to date with BS 7671:2018:2022, the wiring standard in its current form.
The guide reflects two amendments to BS 7671. The first, issued in 2020, added rules for Electric Vehicle Charging Installations and offers further advice on adapting to new technology in this field. The second amendment extends coverage to protection against thermal effects and fires caused by electrical equipment, as well as protection against voltage and electromagnetic disturbances.
A new chapter addresses prosumer low-voltage installations, meaning systems where users both consume and generate electricity. It covers energy efficiency, the connection to the smart grid, management of electricity use, control of renewable generation, and energy storage.
