Hard Fire

This installment continues the story of Jon Reznick, a black-ops veteran who has a record of handling trouble on his own terms. When masked men kill his closest friend, Bill Eastland, who was the last living link Reznick had to his father, Reznick is shaken and angry, and he vows revenge. He intends to find whoever ordered the killing, whether or not the FBI approves.

Working with Trevelle Williams, a skilled hacker, Reznick follows the masked killers from Maine to Texas and then to New York. Along the way he is pulled into the dangerous worlds of the Aryan Brotherhood and the Mafia. As the death toll he causes rises, the clues point to a New York crime family led by Paul Moretti.

Meanwhile, FBI Assistant Director Martha Meyerstein has discovered a secret that could undo Reznick's mission: Moretti is a high-level FBI informant. Reznick must decide whether to accept the Bureau's approach and risk losing his relationship with Martha, or to pursue a harsher form of justice regardless of the consequences.

How far will Reznick go, and how many government agencies will he clash with, to avenge his best friend? He may have to write his own rules.
