Hard Truth

Anna Pigeon has barely had time to settle into married life with Sheriff Paul Davidson before she is uprooted. Her new job takes her to Colorado, where she becomes district ranger at Rocky Mountain National Park, a fresh landscape and a fresh set of responsibilities. Her arrival coincides with a troubling case. Three children vanished from a religious retreat, and only two of them have come back. Anna takes on the search for answers and the missing child, and the trail leads her toward a secretive, suspicious sect that guards its own world closely. Behind that closed community is a man whose cruelty is more chilling than anything Anna has met before. Hard Truth is a Nevada Barr novel in the Anna Pigeon series, mixing wilderness-ranger procedure with a slow-building sense of dread.
