About this book
The Intergalactic Committee has decided that Earth is ready to join the cosmic family. The trouble is that rogue cyborgs, rebellious factions and plainly malicious species are doing all they can to hold up the invitation. The book asks whether the Committee can reach humanity in time to warn of its coming doom, or whether human greed, egocentric hunger for power, pollution and climate change will lead people to destroy their own home first.
The Committee's members are an evolved alien species who understand that all life is interconnected. To them, attacking someone else is like hurting your own foot, since you never know who might be wearing steel pants. War and broken feet only distract from better things, such as exploring galaxies and sampling strange cosmic food.
They see potential in Earthlings, whom they regard as a scrappy, emotional, snotty little species, like children throwing sand in a sandbox without realizing how much power they hold or how much harm they can do. Some of us, sadly, grow up to be the forces that tear worlds apart. The Committee has not come to point fingers, though. It offers a different way forward. There is enough cosmic slime for everyone, and the real battle is not about world domination or territory but about climbing within ourselves. The greatest conflict we face is the struggle between fear and love.
The Committee invites humanity to build a sandcastle of shared wisdom and love, bigger and better than anything we could make alone. The alternative is to keep stomping around the sandbox and wrecking one another's creations. The universe is waiting to be explored, and the choice of how to do it is ours.
