Hemlock & silver

Anja is a healer who drinks poison on a regular basis. She does it not to harm herself but to help others, because she searches for cures for people whom everyone else has written off. Her days are quiet and devoted to herbs until a summons from the king interrupts them. His daughter, Snow, is dying, and he hopes Anja's unconventional methods can save her.

Anja hurries to the princess's side with a taciturn guard, a self-absorbed cat and a firm belief in the scientific method. None of her treatments work, until she discovers a secret world hidden inside a magic mirror.

Hemlock & Silver is a dark retelling of the Snow White story, full of poison, intrigue and treason of a distinctly magical kind. Ursula Vernon, who writes fantasy under the name T. Kingfisher, is the author.
