Hidden Dragon
About This Book
Otter, short for Ottilie, feels most at home aboard the Tempest, the ship she shares with her two fathers. The family collects dragon hides, which are used to make the protective gear worn by the queen's guards. Trouble is spreading through the kingdom, and it is hard to tell whether the queen is responsible. Homeless children crowd the city streets. One of them, London, a sharp boy who has learned to survive on his own, sneaks aboard the Tempest as a stowaway. He and Otter become friends, and before long they conclude that the kingdom's future depends on the children themselves. Pirate raids and unfamiliar dangers test them at every turn, and a voyage into Netherwhere, a magical land where they are shipwrecked, tests them further. In each case, it is the quick-thinking young characters who turn things around. As they push back against injustice and shield those who cannot defend themselves, they win the trust of dragons and gargoyles, the realm's most magical creatures, who unite to do good. Hidden Dragon is a fantasy centered on family and friendship that introduces young readers to a range of magical beings. It is another fantasy from Melissa Marr.
