About this book
Bon Scott died in London in 1980, just as AC/DC were about to become the biggest rock band in the world. He was the band's frontman, the driving force of their high-voltage live shows and the lyricist behind their songs. He was already a legend by then, and his death made him the best-known figure in Australian rock.
Clinton Walker's Highway to Hell follows Scott's life from his beginnings as a rowdy young man in Fremantle, through the rough, underdeveloped Australian pop scene of the time, to the top. Walker draws on extensive research and many interviews. The book looks at the voice and the cheeky spirit behind songs such as 'TNT', 'Jailbreak', 'Let There Be Rock', 'Dirty Deeds' and 'Whole Lotta Rosie', which keep winning new listeners.
The book was first published in 1994 and has since stood as the standard account of Scott and AC/DC. It is both a vivid portrait of one man and a tribute to what rock'n'roll can do for the people who live for it, in this case a singer who gave his life chasing a wild dream.
