Hippie

Paulo is a thin young Brazilian with a goatee and long hair who wants to be a writer. In Amsterdam he meets Karla, a Dutch woman in her twenties who has been looking for someone to share the legendary hippie trail to Nepal with. She persuades him to come along, and the two board the Magic Bus, which carries travelers from Amsterdam to Istanbul, across Central Asia and on to Kathmandu.

Paulo Coelho, the author of The Alchemist, draws on his own experiences to tell this story. The route takes the reader from South America to Holland to Nepal, back into a time when a whole generation hoped for peace and a different way of living.

As the miles pass, Paulo and Karla's love affair deepens and changes them in every way. The choices they make along the road will shape the rest of their lives, which makes the trip as much an inner passage as a physical one.
