Stone Barrington, the New York lawyer and former cop at the center of Stuart Woods's long-running series, discovers his name written on a hit list. His first instinct is sensible: keep a low profile and let the authorities find whoever is behind it. That plan falls apart when the man responsible keeps going, clearly determined to finish what he started. Waiting is no longer an option, so Stone decides to meet the threat head-on rather than keep looking over his shoulder. With his guard up and a weapon close at hand, Stone calls on the sharpest allies he has to stop the killer before he strikes again. But the target is slippery, skilled at slipping away in more ways than one, and the chase pulls Stone across borders in a game of cat and mouse.
