Homes
About This Book
Roughly a thousand children with no families of their own live in The Homes, a village of orphans on the edge of Glasgow in the Scottish Lowlands. Lesley was six before she realised that most children grow up with their parents. Now twelve, Lesley shares Cottage 5 with her closest friend, Jonesy. He is restless and full of mischief, while she is quiet and given to reflection. Daily life at the home is harsh, and it grows much worse when one child is found murdered, and then another. When the police fail to catch the killer, Lesley and Jonesy decide to investigate on their own. Unwanted children are easy targets, and the two friends soon find themselves in serious danger. The novel is inspired by a true story and is told through Lesley's distinctive voice. It will appeal to readers of Val McDermid, Chris Whitaker, Jane Casey and Denise Mina.
