In Another Time

Scotland, 1942. Europe is at war, and Maisie McCall has joined the Women's Timber Corps in the Highlands, where she handles an axe and finds a sense of independence she has never known. She works beside the other lumberjacks, among them a guarded man named John Lindsay. As they fell trees together, Maisie begins to sense that their friendship could become something deeper, yet John keeps stepping back whenever she draws near. After Maisie saves him from a serious logging accident, John starts to share the painful history he has kept hidden. Maisie must then weigh how much of her heart she is willing to risk on helping him mend his shattered past. Set against a country ruined by war, this is a story about whether love can help heal what has been broken. The novel is by Caroline Leech, author of Wait for Me.
